Wahlsten Sponge Bit

A horse that has wounds in its mouth or is very sensitive in the mouth can be ridden excellently with a Sponge bit. The Wahlsten Sponge bit is a very soft foam bit that initially appears very thick, but shrinks with use. The bit has a nylon cord as its core, making it non-flexible.

Tip: If the horse has mouth wounds such as cracked corners, soak the sponge bit in salt water to promote healing.

When purchased, the bit is approximately +- 5 cm thick. When the bit becomes wet from saliva or water, its thickness halves. As the bit is used over time, it will gradually shrink and conform to the horse's mouth. If the horse initially struggles with the thickness of the bit, we recommend soaking it in water beforehand.
