Pelham With Low Port - Vulcanite
Vulcanite mouthpiece:
A vulcanite mouthpiece is made of vulcanized rubber, also called vulcanite, reinforced with a steel core. Vulcanite has the ability to maintain a constant temperature, which is especially important for horses with drier mouths. Unlike traditional rubber bits that can become hot, the Vulcanite mouthpiece avoids the risk of discomfort or possible burns in the horse's mouth.
Description (baby) pelham:
- A pelham is a bit with curb chain and shanks, which puts pressure behind the ears and creates leverage.
- A pelham with short shanks is also called a baby pelham and a pelham with long shanks is a regular pelham.
- The length of the shanks and the chin strap or curb chain determine the strength of the impact.
The longer the shank, the sharper the effect. - A pelham can be used with 2 reins; One rein on the upper ring for a soft support and the other rein on the lower ring for the leverage effect of the pelham.
- You can also use one rein by means of a pelham strap (Bridge), to which the rein is attached.
- Using a pelham makes it easier for a horse to adjust deeply and is often used for stronger horses.
- The pelham is not suitable for inexperienced riders or horses, this bit can have quite a strong impact.
Straight mouthpiece properties:
A straight mouthpiece often has a sharper effect than a single or double jointed mouthpiece. The shape of the mouthpiece determines where the pressure is placed in the mouth. A straight mouthpiece with tongue arch/port gives more pressure on the layers and keeps the tongue free. The straighter and thicker the mouthpiece, the more pressure on the tongue.
